CORONATION Street's Sally Metcalfe will be left fighting for her life next week in the Underworld factory collapse - and it came as a huge shock to actress Sally Dynevor.

The actress - who has played her namesake for 33 years in the ITV soap - was shocked when she was told Sally may die in the horrifying incident that will see a beloved character killed off.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online's Soap Bubble, Sally wouldn't be drawn on who dies, or even if Sally herself survives, but did admit her shock at the news.

Asked if she worried she was being killed off, Sally said: "Of course that's the first thing I said, oh my gosh!

"Gosh, she's just got out of prison, give her a break!"

There will be 13 characters left fighting for their lives in the collapse, but Sally and her sister Gina will be the only ones to plunge through the roof during a furious sisterly row.

And Sally has hinted her character just wants to see the back of her sister - potentially no matter the cost.

"There's a lot of sibling rivalry going on between Gina and Sally," Sally added.

"Especially with Sally coming out of prison and feeling like Gina put her there even though she didn't really, and then she tried to seduce her husband so she's really angry with her.

"She feels like she's the parent of Gina and she's had enough of it. She just wants Gina to go away basically.

"It's a really silly argument but it comes from something much deeper actually. Sally's angry with Gina because she's made a bigger banner than her and she's going to put it up on the roof.

"And Sally says they're all Sally's friends and not Gina's friends and it leads in to a big fight on the roof.

"It's nice because it's a sibling fight and petty but with an undercurrent of something serious."

But could Sally really turn into a villain and try to kill her sister, even after all she has done.

Sally says not, adding: "No, Sally's too daft. She wouldn't know how to be a villain if she tried, she's not clever enough."

And she wouldn't be drawn on who is the real super villain of the piece, but she did admit who she doesn't want it to be - Nick Tilsley.

She said: "I really don't know who the super villain is. There was a teaser it's Nick but I don't want it to be Nick. He's so sensible so I don't want it to be him."

However, Sally did reveal the cobbles would never be the same again after the destruction of Underworld.

She said: "The factory is quite the central to Corrie. It's in the middle of Coronation Street, so to have something like this happen next door to Gail and next door to the garage and opposite the pub and with everyone involved, it's a massive deal."

But she did have a brilliant time filming the scenes, even if it means her time on the cobbles has come to an end.

"Oh my gosh, it was so good," she said.

"I really, really enjoyed it. A because the story was so good, B because we have one of the best directors in Brett Fallis who's fantastic and so laid back and really lovely to work with so that was a pleasure.

"And for Connie who plays my sister, I just love working with her so to have those scenes on the roof was just great."

* Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights on ITV
