The Crown bosses set to infuriate Royal Family by featuring Diana as a ‘lonely self-harmer’ in season four

THE Crown is poised to upset the Royal Family by portraying Princess Diana as a “desperate and lonely self-harmer”.

Show creator Peter Morgan is casting for the part of the young princess as she struggles to fit in with her in-laws.

The advert says he is looking for a “staggeringly talented young actress” to play Di aged 18-22 in the fourth series.

It reads: “We need a mesmerising new young star with extraordinary range.

“She has to play charming comedy, flirt and social exhibitionist on the world stage, desperate and lonely self-harmer at her lowest ebb and the kind of psychological intensity of Mia Farrow in Rosemary’s Baby.”

The 1968 movie is about a despairing young mum who gives birth to the Devil’s child.

A TV insider said: “Peter is not going to hold back on how Diana impacted the Royal Family, just as he didn’t when he wrote The Queen. It could ruffle a few feathers.”

Filming for the third series, which stars Olivia Colman as the Queen and Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret, finished last month.

It will be released on Netflix in July.
