DANCING On Ice’s Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean worry that each dance is their “last”.
It has been over 30 years since the world’s most famous ice skating duo stunned the crowds and took home an Olympic gold.
The skating legends performed Ravel’s Bolero at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics on Valentines Day in 1984 and Chris, 60, admitted they are grateful every time they perform together nowadays.
He said: “Do we feel those 35 years in our bodies? Yes! You reach a certain age and that downward slope. Nowadays every time we perform we feel like we don’t know if that’s our last performance.
“So each time we skate it feels like a little added bonus. It’s quite sentimental. We like performing together, but there is an emotion each time we skate now.”
The remarkable duo recently performed together for the first time in four years on the ITV show, but Chris stopped short of gliding across the ice with Jayne above his head.
He added to the : “I could still do it. But there are age appropriate things and I don’t think I should be throwing a 60-year-old lady around the ice.
“We still feel in our 20s. In our mind we can do everything but our body doesn’t allow it. We’re the best we can be at the moment.
“I hope we’ll realise when it’s time to stop skating before other people realise it.”
The sensational Ice Dance legends got a perfect score from the judges in 1984 on Valentine’s Day when they performed Ravel’s Bolero at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics.
They received 12 perfect scores of 6.0, with sixes from all nine judges for artistic impression – a feat which had never been seen before.
When the pair met Chris, following the breakup of his parents’ marriage, channeled his anger into skating
Jayne was a reserved youngster, determined to explore her passionate nature through the ice.
Their early years and the creative impetus drove them to become ice dancing royalty.
Speaking about their bond, Chris added: “Our friendship is unique and unshakeable. We’ve been together so long we’re like Morecambe and Wise. We’re just Chris and Jayne.”
