Fans raced to Twitter to express their disappointment, with many pointing to the loss of Jessica Jones.

One wrote: "I'm really sad/angry over all of this. Jessica JOnes was the best show out of the Netflix MCU."

Another wrote: "I knew it was only a matter of time before Jessica Jones and The Punisher were cancelled by Netflix but nonetheless, I got sad when I heard the news today."

The cull won't come as a surprise to many, after Daredevil was cancelled in November after three seasons.

Iron Fist was also cancelled in October  after two seasons, and Luke Cage last October after two seasons.

What's more, The Defenders only ran for one season, long-running prison drama Orange Is The New Black won't be returning after its current seventh series, and nor will House of Cards.
