Netflix leaves fans stunned by cancelling Jessica Jones, Friends From College and The Punisher in huge cull of big shows
The streaming giant has cleansed the platform of Marvel series ahead of the launch of Disney's new streaming service
NETLIX has cancelled its remaining Marvel shows Jessica Jones and The Punisher amid a huge reshuffle.
The service has dumped the comic book company shows from its platform ahead of the launch of Disney's new rival streaming service, Disney+.
Netflix told Deadline: "We are grateful to Marvel for five years of our fruitful partnership and thank the passionate fans who have followed these series from the beginning."
Krysten Ritter, who played the title character in Jessica Jones, added on Instagram: "It has been a dream to play Jessica alongside my amazing cast and the best crew in the business for these past 5 years.
"I am so grateful for every second of it."
Marvel's Jeph Loeb announced the news in a letter to fans and hinted that the shows could return on Disney+.
He said: "Our network partner may have decided they no longer want to continue telling the tales of these great characters… but you know Marvel better than that.
"To be continued...!"
Meanwhile, Friends From College also walked the plank after two seasons at Netflix.
Show co-creator Nicholas Stoller took to Twitter to announce that the Netflix comedy won’t be returning.
He simply wrote: "Friends from College will not be returning for a third season. Thanks to everyone who watched it. Happy Presidents’ Day!"
Fans raced to Twitter to express their disappointment, with many pointing to the loss of Jessica Jones.
One wrote: "I'm really sad/angry over all of this. Jessica JOnes was the best show out of the Netflix MCU."
Another wrote: "I knew it was only a matter of time before Jessica Jones and The Punisher were cancelled by Netflix but nonetheless, I got sad when I heard the news today."
