First look at Meryl Streep in Big Little Lies season 2 as HBO confirms start date
The Oscar-winning star is set to play a key part in the new series
PHOTOS of Meryl Streep’s upcoming stint in hit HBO series Big Little Lies have been released ahead of its return in June 2019.
Fans of the show already know that the Oscar winner is due to star as Mary Louise Wright, the mother of Alexander Skarsgard’s Perry, who died last season.
In the upcoming seven-episode season beginning in June, Streep, 69, plays Mary Louise Wright, mother-in-law to Nicole Kidman‘s Celeste.
After her abusive son Perry got his karma in the show’s finale by being shoved off a cliff, tensions are running high in the well-heeled community as the main characters struggle to hide their secret.
Mary Louise claims to be “concerned for the well-being of her grandchildren’ and ‘searching for answers’ about her son’s death.
But does she suspect more than she’s letting on?
The photos from the new episodes Meryl is looking far from her usual glam self with mousy hair and drab wardrobe.
Sitting next to Nicole Kidman, 51, as Celeste, the women look deep in conversation as their food goes untouched in front of them.
In another photo from the upcoming season, Reese Witherspoon’s Madeline Martha Mackenzie is seen looking over her shoulder as she meets up with Celeste, Shailene Woodley’s Jane, Zoë Kravitz’s Bonnie and Laura Dern’s Renata at school.
Fans of the show will have to wait and see who it is that’s got the women looking so shifty.
HBO teased in a press release: “The new season explores the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting.
“Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode...and the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
Reese, Nicole, Shailene, Laura and Zoe all return and viewers will seem them struggle to move forward with their lives in the aftermath of Perry’s murder.
David E. Kelley, who wrote both seasons, revealed at a press event the new season will also address unresolved issues like Madeline’s affair.
The stars of the show reunited at the Television Critics Association Press Tour earlier this week.
Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman couldn't resist sharing the meet up with their fans on social media.
The 42-year-old captioned the image: "Keep your friends close, and your happy hour crew closer" including the hash tag #yesThatisMerylStreep in case her fans were wondering.
The group looked stunning as they posed for photos at the event, where they took part in a panel chat about the upcoming series.
