Justin Bieber reveals he was celibate for a YEAR before marrying Hailey Baldwin because of his ‘legitimate problem with sex’
JUSTIN Bieber has revealed that he and wife Hailey Baldwin saved sex for marriage due to their religious beliefs.
The 24-year-old star decided to be celibate in 2017, with he and 22-year-old Hailey rekindling their romance in June 2018.
Speaking to magazine, Justin admitted that he had "a legitimate problem with sex" - and he had not engaged in intercourse for over a year when he and Hailey got back in touch.
Explaining the religious reasoning behind his celibacy, the singer told the publication: "God doesn’t ask us not to have sex for him because he wants rules and stuff.
"He’s like, I’m trying to protect you from hurt and pain.
"I think sex can cause a lot of pain. Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth. Women do that, and guys do that.
"I wanted to re-dedicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul."
He went on to claim that God "blessed" him with Hailey as a "reward" for his good behaviour, adding: "There are perks."
Justin and Hailey remained celibate throughout their 12-week courtship, with the pair tying the knot in September last year.
The star first met Hailey on the set of The Today Show in 2009, becoming friends after reconnecting at a Hillsong Church service a few years later.
Hailey recalled: "One day Justin walked into Hillsong and was like, ‘Hey, you got older.’ I was like, 'Yeah, what’s up?'
"Over time he became my best guy friend. I was running around with him as his homie, but we weren’t hanging out [romantically]."
Three years ago, they briefly dated but Hailey revealed that they split when "negative things happened".
After that, the pair did not run in to each other again until June, when they both attended a Miami conference that was hosted by the pastor of Vous Church, Rich Wilkerson Jr.

Hailey explained: "The common denominator, I promise you, is always church.
"By then we were past the drama. I just gave him a hug. By the end of the conference, he was like, 'We’re not going to be friends.'"
Within a month they were engaged, with Justin proposing during a trip to the Bahamas in July.
