BELOVED actor Steve Bean recently passed away, leaving fans in mourning.
But, what was his cause of death and who had he played in Ray Donovan? Here's everything you need to know.
On January 21, the world said goodbye to Steve Bean, also known as Steve Levy, following a battle with cancer.
He was only 58 years old when the terminal illness took his life.
Steve was diagnosed with sino-squamous cell carcinoma, commonly referred to as nose cancer, in late 2016.
It is one of the rarest forms of cancer that affects the nasal cavity and the sinuses, and is most often seen in men aged over 40.
5 months ago, Steve has chronicled his journey for under the title My Year Without A Nose.
His essay begun started with: "Attempting to smell the roses when sino-nasal squamous cell carcinoma (aka nose cancer) has left me with a plastic imitation schnoz and put my life in peril."
He has discussed having his nose removed saying: "I stare at that overpriced schnoz (it cost me about $80, but it can’t be made of more than a nickel’s worth of plastic), and I think, That’s a long road. From nine-year-old with a trophy to 58-year-old with a large hole in the middle of my face.
"If Coach Aronson had told me in 1969 that in 49 years I’d have a nose-shaped crater in my skull, I certainly wouldn’t have believed him. Because nobody gets their nose cut off."
He finished the essay with a heartbreaking admission of all that cancer has cost him and the return of his cancer following months of excruciating treatments.
He said: "If you’re keeping track at home, I’ve now lost my nose, my tear ducts, my upper palate and gums, all but four of my teeth, my appetite, my right cheekbone, much of my right jawbone, much of my right cheek, my eyebrows and moustache (chemo), the feeling in my upper lip (surgery), most of the motor control of the right side of my face (surgery) and some hearing in each ear (chemo).
"I also lost about 40 pounds, and worst of all, I lost my sense of humor. All of that physical stuff ain’t ever coming back. Luckily, my sense of humor came back about a month ago.
"Not a moment too soon either: The latest scans show yet another recurrence of the cancer. The doctors tell me I have nine to twelve months to live."
Back in 2016, Steve played Mr. Marcioni in the television series Ray Donovan.
It was his last acting gig before passing away, and he had received his diagnosis around this time.
Other series we saw him in include Shameless, Togetherness, Days of Our Lives, Justified and Monk.
As for his movie gigs, Steve has been in Hot (2016), The Out-of-Towners (1999), Blast from the Past (1999) and Mousehunt (1997).
