Who is Willem Dafoe?

Willen Dafoe, born as William James Dafoe, is an American character actor.

The 63-year-old was born on July 22, 1955, in Appleton, Wisconsin.

He acquired the nickname Willem in high school, as Willem is the Dutch version of his first name William.

The famous star studied drama at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee but decided to leave after a year and a half to join Theatre X before eventually moving to New York.

Since starting his acting career he has secured countless awards and nominations thanks to his breathtaking talent.

Why has he been nominated for an Oscar?

Willem has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor thanks to his part in At Eternity’s Gate.

He played the iconic artist Vincent van Gogh in the movie that takes a look at his time in Arles and Auvers-sur-Oise in France.

The film is yet to be released in the UK. However, it will be available from March 29, 2019, on.

Willem has received four Academy Award nominations to date, but will this be the year that he takes it home?
