Sara Cox left furious at ‘young idiots’ who started a blaze at her dad’s farm

The Radio 2 DJ, 44, praised firefighters after yobs torched fermented hay bales at the farm in Bolton

RADIO 2 presenter Sara Cox has revealed her fury after a “gang of young idiots” set her dad’s farm on fire.

The DJ, 44, praised firefighters after yobs torched bales of hay outside her father Len’s land.

Crews were called to the blaze at Grundy Fold Farm, in Little Lever, Bolton on Saturday night.

It is understood a group of teenagers set fire to haylage - fermented hay bales - outside the property.

Firefighters allowed the blaze to burn out and stayed at the scene until 4am the following day to make sure it did not spread.

Sara tweeted: “Huge thanks for @FireBolton crew for helping my dad last night when a gang of young idiots set fire to his haylage, destroying it.

“Farms aren’t playgrounds for bored kids - police haven’t been able to help, struggling to find a solution.

“Just want my dad and his property kept safe.”

She later added that a crew from Farnworth attended and tweeted ‘thanks so much’.

Fold Farm, on an unnamed road in Little Lever, Bolton.

“We were called to reports of a large fire outside the farm. On arrival we found a fire involving bales of hay in the open.

“It was allowed to burn out. We left the one pump at the scene to make sure it didn’t spread.

“We left the farm at 4am in the morning. Nobody was injured.”
