Ferne McCann angers fitness DVD bosses for crediting her weight loss to controversial supplement Herbalife NOT her workout routine
FERNE McCann has angered her fitness DVD bosses after she credited her weight loss to controversial diet brand Herbalife, The Sun Online can exclusively reveal.
The former Towie star recently launched her debut workout DVD, Fit As Ferne, that features seven high-intensity workouts, which she says helped her get back into shape after welcoming daughter Sunday.
However, the fitness fanatic, 28, has upset DVD bosses after she also credited nutritional brand Herbalife with aiding her post-pregnancy transformation, writing on Instagram that: “I look like this because I decided to do a 30 day challenge [with Herbalife] this time last year in Jan.”
A source said: “Ferne’s fitness DVD bosses are fuming. They can’t believe she has credited Herbalife with helping her get her pre-pregnancy body back.
“Her DVD has been promoted as the ‘workout that got her into the best shape of her life’ after having Sunday. Yet, she’s also saying that a meal replacement shakes and bars were the trick to achieving her post-baby body.
“It’s a nightmare.”
A representative for Ferne said: “This is nonsense. Of course Universal were aware of all Ferne’s partnerships ahead of working with her. Ferne’s always been honest about her entire lifestyle package that’s lead to her feeling and looking great!”
Ferne has been an official member of the weight management company since 2017 and has credited pal Danielle Armstrong with drawing her attention to their products after her pregnancy.
The First Time Mum star is known to promote the brand’s meal replacement shakes and bars on her Fernutrition Instagram page, which boasts just under 100,000 followers.
In a testimonial posted on her nutrition website, she explained: “My Herbalife Nutrition journey began when I was pregnant.
“I was blown away by my friend Danielle Armstrong’s body transformation. She had completely changed her body shape by dropping 21 lbs in body weight & gained 7 lbs of lean muscle.
Adding: “She was glowing and looked absolutely incredible. I couldn’t believe this was all down to Herbalife Nutrition.
“I had always been fairly cynical towards Herbalife & thought it was another FAD diet. However Danni changed my whole perspective…
She concluded: “Lots of people were complimenting me on how well I was looking considering I’ve just had a baby, therefore I thought it was only fair to share on my social media the Herbalife products I’ve been using…”.
However, Herbalife is controversial, and has been accused of being a pyramid scheme – a model in which members are paid for recruiting others rather than selling products – propped up by some of the high profile names they get to endorse their products. The company has denied the accusations.
Four years ago, America’s Federal Trade Commission chairwoman Edith Ramirez said: “The average amount that more than half of the elite members known as ‘sales leaders’ received in a year for recruiting others into the Herbalife program was less than £220,” going on to brand Herbalife’s sale of a “dream” career working from home as “an illusion”.
“Far more made nothing or lost money on their initial investment,” she added.
Herbalife was ordered to pay £147million compensation and told to revamp their compensation structure so that distributors are rewarded for what they sell, not how many people they recruit.
Other experts have claimed that Herbalife might even cause long term problems – over the years, the company’s products have been linked to lead poisoning, liver damage, and hepatitis.
In December, Ferne, who’s gone from a size 12 to an eight, spoke to Fabulous about her fitness DVD, which includes seven high-intensity workouts created with .
While Ferne has kept her fans up-to-date with her health and fitness journey on Instagram, this is the first time her followers have had access to her exact workout routines.
She told The Sun Online: “Ellie and I have been working together since I had my daughter Sunday last year and it’s this workout that has got me into the best shape that I’ve ever been in.”
“Each section is designed to get your heart pumping and your body sweating.”
