SAS: Who Dares Wins contestant Louise Gabbitas claims she was "thankful" that opponent Nathaniel punched her in the face in shock scenes that aired last night.

Louise, 29, broke her silence on the aftermath and explained how she thought Nathaniel was "commendable" in his actions.

: "From the start we were made aware that we would be treated as equals to the men and that there would be no changes, allowances or exceptions for any of us.

"I was so physically and mentally drained I didn't want to fight anyone, male or female... We were all friends by this point. Gender was irrelevant.

"I had to do it and it was just another task to me. I would have been disappointed if Nathaniel had held back... I'm thankful for how things turned out. It taught me more about myself."

In the new interview, Louise went on to explain how Nathaniel and herself "have a good relationship" adding that they discussed the situation and that she thinks his handling of the task was "commendable."

However, Nathaniel has since claimed that punching his pal was one of the most "difficult" tasks he had to endure.

He explained: "It was something that I expected to happen as it was the first time women were part of the show... Although it was inevitable, and something I tried to mentally prepare myself for, it was one of the most difficult tasks I had to do during the series."

It is the first time the show has aired a female contestant being badly hurt in conflict with a man. She's also one of the show’s first ever female recruits.

Ex-Special Forces Ant Middleton told the recruits: "The enemy doesn't care what gender, race or religion you are.

"The best form of defence is attack. Is that understood?"

Teary Louise comforted Nathanial who apologised, saying he tried not to be "too aggressive".
