LOSS & BECKS

David Beckham’s ‘Peaky Blinders’ fashion brand owners racked up losses of £10.7million last year

Owners of Becks' fashion brand Kent & Curwen racked up losses of £10.7million after his wife Victoria’s self-titled clothes range last month revealed a £10.2million loss for 2017

THE owners of David Beckham’s fashion brand Kent & Curwen have racked up losses of almost £10.7million.

The huge figure is £500,000 more than his wife Victoria Beckham’s self-titled range, which last month revealed a £10.2million loss for 2017.

David, 43, became a became a business partner and the face of the menswear line in 2015, but it’s owned by a bigger company, Trinity Brands UK.

In the first 290 days of trading in 2016, it lost £3.5million and then revealed the eight-figure loss for 2017.

Becks was joined by Victoria, 43, at London Fashion Week Men’s last weekend to launch Kent & Curwen’s new collection.

He was even pictured visiting the set of their most recent inspiration, BBC1 gangster drama, Peaky Blinders last week.

But it remains to be seen if the Beckham’s PR push can take the company out of the red.

A financial expert said: “When he was signed up to front Kent & Curwen four years ago, the owners hoped Goldenballs would bring his golden touch to the brand.

“But as Victoria’s falling fortunes have shown, the Beckham association isn’t the guarantee it used to be.

“It certainly hasn’t been enough to stop the company slipping further into the red in 2017.”

Last year Trinity Brands UK, which also owns fashion house Cerruti, said it’s focus remained on building the Kent & Curwen brand. They said their partnership with David had “incurred significant costs, including design and development, in advance of any product being available in stores.”

That included opening a luxury flagship store in London’s Covent Garden and launching the Kent & Curwen website.

It’s the latest setback for brand Beckham after Posh revealed her clothing range’s losses had increased by £2million between 2016 and 2017.

David also slashed the wages he pays himself from another of his companies, Footwork Productions, by £7million.
