Margot Robbie to play Barbie in live action movie after Anne Hathaway and Amy Schumer ‘quit’
ACTRESS Margot Robbie will play the lead role of Barbie in the live action movie, it has been revealed today.
The news comes after both Anne Hathaway and Amy Schumer had been lined up for the role.
Margot, 28, is no stranger to playing fictional characters, with the Harley Quinn doll from Blockbuster film Suicide Squad already on her CV.
The stunning Australian actress has now been confirmed as the lead in the cinema film collaboration between Mattel Films and Warner Bros.
Amy Schumer, 37, who announced her pregnancy last year, was originally lined up to play the blonde character, but had to pull out over a scheduling conflict.
Actress Anne Hathaway, 36, was rumoured as her replacement but never confirmed.
Margot Robbie has an impressive CV after first finding fame as Donna Freedman on Aussie soap, Neighbours, in 2008.
After proving her A* acting, Margot's career moved to films and in 2014 she starred in arguably her most famous role - alongside Leonardo DiCaprio as Naomi Naomi Lapaglia in Wolf of Wall Street.
Recently, Margot revealed her embarrassment of filming THAT raunchy scene with Leo in front of 30 male crew.
Her other films include I Tonya, Tarzan, Terminal and Mary Queen of Scots, due to be released this year.
“Margot is the ideal producer and actress to bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences,” Toby Emmerich, chairman of Warner Bros Pictures Group, said.
Filming has not yet start but the film is due to be released in 2020.
