Spice Girls’ cartoon superhero movie dealt a blow as no TV networks want it
IT’S set to be a massive year for the Spice Girls as they embark on their first tour in 11 years, plus a slot at Glastonbury.
But one project isn’t panning out as the gang hoped.
I can reveal their animated superhero movie is in jeopardy as they struggle to find a television network or film distributor to broadcast it.
All five women — Geri Horner, Mel C, Mel B, Emma Bunton and even Victoria Beckham — had signed off on the cartoon, which is being masterminded by their former manager Simon Fuller, and they hoped it would be signed up by major television networks.
But nobody has opted in so the future of the film is in doubt.
A well-placed source said: “The girls all felt the project would be snapped up in a big-money deal, but to date nobody has optioned it and they’re finding it difficult to get it off the ground.
“They have a production deal to make the animation but nobody has bought the rights to broadcast it yet, which came as a great surprise to the girls.
“Geri and Mel B, especially, have been really keen to see themselves made into cartoon characters and launch their legacy to a whole new youth audience.
“They were hoping that Marvel or Disney would pick up their movie but it just hasn’t taken off.”
It’s not the band’s first foray into film — their musical comedy Spice World was released in 1997.
The movie saw the girls act for the first time and took in almost £80million at the box office.
I imagine they’ll be hoping to replicate that success while they have fans anticipating their much talked about 2019 tour.
We Dua like to be beside the seaside
DUA Lipa cuts a dash in a yellow bikini as she races her sister Rina into the Miami surf. After her dip, she enjoyed a kiss with chef boyfriend Isaac Carew.
Dua didn’t let work get in the way of her enjoying the sun – as her performance for annual US telly show Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve party was broadcast live from Florida while all the other acts were forced to brace the cold in New York.
Christina Aguilera, Post Malone and Shawn Mendes were also part of the year-end TV celebration, hosted by Ryan Seacrest.
Following Dua’s performance, which included a rendition of her hit New Rules, she saw in the New Year with Isaac, as the pair posted an Instagram shot of them in their party clothes.
I bet they didn’t keep their hands off each other come midnight.

- Harry Potter actor Daniel Radcliffe has revealed he is so wealthy, after starring in the franchise, that he no longer needs to work – and is being decidedly picky with the jobs he takes on.

Flack ex opts for exile in Oz
CAROLINE Flack’s ex-fiancé is putting as much distance as he can between them to get over their painful split.
Apprentice flop Andrew Brady said he is emigrating to Australia and has no plans to return in a lengthy Instagram post about his “paranoia, guilt and insecurity”.
He said: “I have learned how much punishment the human mind, heart and body can take.
“I have felt guilty for things I never even considered someone should feel guilty for, and I forgot who I was.
"I am about to take off on a one-way flight to Australia without a plan but with excitement of the unknown.”
Andrew continued by taking what appeared to be a swipe at Love Island host Caroline, saying he plans to surround himself with good people in the hope of finding his happy place again.
During their turbulent romance, Andrew was forced to deny cheating on Caroline as well as claims he was using her to boost his own public profile.
Good riddance to him.
Fleur is back
FLEUR East fans last watched the star compose a song about bums, breasts and thighs during her stint in the I’m A Celeb TV jungle.
Now her new single, Favourite Thing, is out on Friday and she says: “It has tribal drums and an African chant.
"It’s really anthemic and upbeat.
“My mum has always made sure I know lots about my Ghanaian heritage.”
JLo rings in the New Year
THERE’S already enough danger of falling down on New Year’s Eve after a few proseccos without adding a giant dress train into the mix.
Luckily, Jennifer Lopez didn’t suffer a faltering start to 2019 as she wowed revelers in New York.
