Harvey Weinstein faces more legal action as A-listers including George Clooney and Jennifer Lawrence sue for millions in unpaid royalties
Hollywood stars filed a joint lawsuit against Weinstein's former company as they claim they have not received loyalties since March
SHAMED Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein faces yet more legal action after Hollywood stars including George Clooney, Robert de Niro and Jennifer Lawrence filed legal action to get back millions of pounds they claim they are owed by his film studio.
Heavyweights Meryl Streep, Bradley Cooper, Bill Murray and Julia Roberts are also among the group of film icons to file legal action over the unpaid millions.
The superstars have joined forces to file a motion in a US bankruptcy court, claiming they haven’t been paid since March.
It is understood the combined group are owed millions of pounds in “ongoing royalties” from the Weinstein Company.
Weinstein, 66, was forced out of the studio he co-founded after serious sexual assault allegations emerged.
The company was sold to Lantern Entertainment LLC earlier this year.
The Hollywood A-Listers have started legal action to find out if Lantern is liable for their contracts and if so, to force the company to cough up.
Official legal papers confirmed: “Movie stars Meryl Streep, George Clooney, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Robert De Niro, Bill Murray and Julia Roberts - among others - say Lantern has not made it clear if their deals have been picked up by the company.
“The contracts are for a variety of film projects pursuant to which the actors, directors and producers are to be paid royalties on an ongoing basis, but the motion said they've been left in limbo about the status of those agreements.”
Lawrence and Streep both launched stinging attacks on the disgraced Hollywood mogul after he was charged with a number of sexual assault charges.
Hip-hop superstars Eminem and Jay-Z have filed separate proceedings against the Weinstein Company.
They claimed they were owed $800,000, plus some of the rights for projects they had signed up for.
Weinstein was charged with five counts of sexual misconduct after dozens of actresses including Rose McGowan came forward and accused him earlier this year.
