The interactivity means you can choose the direction of the story, and some people aren't quite sure how to deal with their new-found control.

One wrote on Twitter: "When i told liv to choose 'chop up the body' and explained why she knew in that moment that i’m a serial killer #Bandersnatch".

Another said: "I had to kill my dad a solid 10 times and Colin ... twice... before I finally got the “true” #Bandersnatch ending. This could be a serial killer litmus test #blackmirror".

A fourth said: "This new black mirror movie really got me choosing between cereal brands at 3am LMAO #bandersnatch".

The official synopsis for Black Mirror: Bandersnatch reads: “In 1984, a young programmer begins to question reality as he adapts a sprawling fantasy novel into a video game and soon faces a mind-mangling challenge. Welcome back."

Bandersnatch, which at an hour and 30 minutes IS the longest Black Mirror ever produced, launched on Netflix on December 28 - giving anyone lucky enough to be off work plenty of time to watch it.

But as the show has a choose-your-own-adventure format, and it's claimed five hours of footage was filmed all together, fans can be watching it for hours, depending on which choices they make - and how many times they go back and re-do the storyline.

This summer, parts of Croydon were transformed into 1980s-style shopfronts for the movie, including a WHSmith shop full of music and books from the time.

Locals could have been forgiven for thinking they'd slipped into a time-warp as brands including a retro-looking Pizza Hut and Wimpy begun appearing in the South London suburb.

Older residents were also delighted to see a Soleil travel agent and a branch of defunct fashion chain Chelsea Girl, which was eventually merged to become River Island.
