EASTENDERS star Danny Dyer has spoken for the first time about the “car crash” which saw him take a break last year — insisting he is finally back “in a good place”.
The troubled actor, 41, flew to South Africa alone in 2017 after show bosses agreed he should take some time away.
It came after several drunken outbursts including a furious row at the National Television Awards caught on camera.
The star, who plays Queen Vic pub landlord Mick Carter in EastEnders, “kicked off” after the annual bash.
Witnesses told how he was “really animated” and his wife Joanne Mas “trying to calm him down” along with Martin Fowler actor James Bye.
A pal insisted the “exhausted” star was frustrated from being held up in his bid to leave the event.
Days later he took a break from the soap to deal with his “issues”.
His hardpartying lifestyle had been worrying bosses and babbling rants concerning co-stars and crew.
His daughter Dani told a year later how he was teetotal.
But opening up about the awards night incident, Cockney Danny said: “I was a car crash. I had a few nutty years. When you have a bit of fame you have a responsibility to speak up.
“It comes with maturity. It comes with experience. It takes us a long time to grow up as men. I have been reaping the rewards now and I am in a good place. It is all good.”
The father of three is currently starring in Nativity! The Musical with his Love Island winner daughter Dani, 22.
His next theatre gig will be featuring in two-man stage show celebrating playwright Harold Pinter with The Office actor Martin Freeman, 47.
But speaking on soap co-star Jake Wood’s Pound For Pound boxing podcast — the grumbling actor revealed he was earning only £700 a week from it.

Danny added: “Seven hundred shots (pounds) a week. It is very hard living off that.
“I have never understood that with our game you know. The fact that you do theatre, really credible stuff and it pays you no dough. All you are left with is a bit of fag money.
“But it is going to be a beautiful thing to get the old juices flowing again and then I am back in the Square.”
