Kym Marsh reveals heartbreak as army boyfriend is going to Afghanistan for six months but insists they can make relationship work
KYM Marsh has revealed her heartache as her army boyfriend prepares to go to Afghanistan for six months - but she has insisted that they will make their romance work.
The Coronation Street star began dating Scottish Army Major Scott Ratcliffe earlier this year, weeks after splitting from her long-term boyfriend Matt Baker.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online about Scott at The Sun's Military Awards, Kym, 42, said: "He is due to go back to Afghanistan next year for six months.
"It is tough, but I know we can make it work and we will be fine.
"He's just got back from a training exercise in Kenya, so tonight was the first time we have seen each other in weeks.
"It feels very special to us to be here together - and now he's back for Christmas, it's a lovely feeling."
Kym went on to admit that she finds Scott's army-gear attractive, adding: "I love a man in uniform and he looks gorgeous tonight.
"It's so attractive, he looks so great to me."
Kym and Scott have kept their romance largely out of the spotlight, only making a handful of red carpet appearances together since they started dating.
She previously said of the hunk: ";Scott is a lovely man and things are going well.
"It's early days, but so far everything is going well.
"I'm trying to keep the relationship as private as I can."
Scott, who’s believed to be 12 years younger than Kym, was introduced to her by Corrie co-star Antony Cotton.
Kym first hinted at their budding romance at the start of July, after spending her birthday at the swanky Hotel Gotham in Manchester.
Scott trained at Sandhurst Military Academy and has been in the elite 3 Para for almost a decade.
He is a keen fundraiser for military good causes and once raised thousands for injured soldiers by completing the Great North Run in under two hours in full kit and a backpack weighing 40kg.
Kym previously confessed: "Both Scott and I were recently single – him some time before I was.
"He’s a good friend of Antony Cotton, who introduced us knowing we’d get on well, which turned out to be true."

Kym split from ex Matt Baker in April of this year.
The couple dated for two years and broke up after buying a £500k house together.
A pal told The Sun at the time: "They wanted this to work out and have spent weeks trying to work through the issues but, sadly, it just wasn’t to be.
"In the end, they both agreed it was for the best that they go their separate ways despite buying a house together so recently."
