'FINDING MY LIFE'

Simon Thomas says late wife Gemma would be happy that he’s dating new girlfriend

SIMON Thomas claimed his late wife Gemma would be happy he's found a new girlfriend on today's Loose Women.

The TV presenter tragically lost his wife in November 2017 -  just three days after she was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia - but recently told fans he is dating again.

Speaking about life a year on from Gemma's death, Simon said he was in the "early stages" of a new relationship.

He explained: "You have to try and find some kind of life again.

"I think you've got two choices, you either give up on life and remain in a cage and if some people want to do that, that's totally fine. It's not for people to judge.

"I just want to be happy again and I know Gemma would want me to be happy.

"I didn't expect to be in a relationship this early, I really didn't, but when it comes you think, 'Well, why can't I be?'"

Simon went on to admit that while his decision to date a year after his wife's death might be unpopular, it's a move that only people in his position would understand.

He explained: "You never truly understand it but I don't want people to truly understand it because to understand it you have to walk in your shoes."

He told host Anna Foster that it felt "strange" to be seeing somebody new, but that he is incredibly grateful to have someone so supportive by his side.

He said: "Right from the early stages, she had this empathy towards me. She’s Christian as well and that’s important to me as a man of faith.
