DON’T expect to see Dalton Harris on a celebratory blow-out this week following his X Factor victory.
The Jamaican is teetotal, has never been to a nightclub and only twice managed a date with girls to the cinema – which he didn’t enjoy.
But chatting to me at Bizarre HQ the morning after his triumph he assures me: “She enjoyed it, though.”
Dalton reached the top of the iTunes chart yesterday with the release of his winners’ single The Power Of Love alongside James Arthur – but insists he won’t have to overcome the darker side of fame like his co-star once did.
He tells me: “I can’t say I’m perfect, but I’m not into partying.
"I don’t drink, I don’t smoke and I’ve never been to a club.
“I have friends who I hang out with but I read books a lot, I’m into science books and documentaries.
“Whenever I’ve been in a relationship I’m really boring because they’ve wanted to go on dates and I just want to watch documentaries about quantum physics.”
Dalton, who tells me he is estranged from all but one family member, his sister, was homeless as a teenager before a talent contest saw him win a million Jamaican dollars – the equivalent of £6,180 – and turn his life around.
He adds: “I had my dark times growing up, thank God I didn’t get taken in by drugs or alcohol, but I battled mentally with myself.
“But I’ve come through all of that. I’ve slept in places where all I could do was get into the foetal position and pull my shirt over my knees.
"It has helped me to appreciate everything I have.”
With Simon Cowell and mentor Louis Tomlinson to guide him, he may be about to have a lot more.
