Sheridan Smith worries her friends with 20hr binge on booze after row with fiance
After her bust-up with Jamie Horn, the actress and singer invited pals round for a huge Saturday night vodka bender
Sheridan Smith has worried friends by going on a 20-hour booze bender.
After a huge row with fiance Jamie Horn last Saturday, she left the country house they share, went to her other place in Crouch End, North London, then got pals round and began drinking.
She quit alcohol in 2016 amid what she has described as a “massive meltdown” and friends now worry she may return to her old ways.
A source close to the actress said: “She was upset by the row with Jamie and wanted to vent to friends. She went to London but some of them insisted she had been in the wrong, which angered her even more and she chucked them out.
“After that she turned to drink and, with the few pals who were left, got through a couple of bottles of vodka.
“They were partying all night and didn’t go to sleep until 3pm on the Sunday.
“It’s concerning for her real friends because they have seen what has happened in the past.
They don’t want her to get into difficulty again and are trying to help get her back on the straight and narrow.”
Sheridan, who got engaged in May after a whirlwind romance, has seen her career go from strength to strength with the release of her second studio album, A Northern Soul, at the beginning of November and a UK arena tour scheduled for March.
Two years ago she was forced to take a break from musical Funny Girl as she struggled to deal with her dad’s diagnosis with cancer, from which he later died.
But in August 2016 it was revealed she was ten weeks sober, as she tried to tackle her demons. Speaking earlier this month, she said: “I kind of lost it a bit after [my dad] died. I’ve come out the other side now.
“Especially in the public, it looks like I’ve moaned about everything with my dad dying but that’s not the case, I just had a massive meltdown.”
Sheridan’s real friends should, indeed, be doing all they can to help.

Vicky ex: I didn't cheat
Vicky Pattison’s ex-fiancé John Noble claims the couple actually split a fortnight before he was seen dancing with another woman in Dubai.
He has told friends he is annoyed she has made it look like he was unfaithful, when they had already called off their engagement.
Vicky was snapped without her engagement ring days after the video of him grinding with the woman, inset, emerged.
At the same time the former Geordie Shore star also referenced their split on Instagram.
But a source close to her ex said: “John and Vicky had already separated when he was in Dubai so technically he didn’t do anything wrong.
“He can see why she was upset but it’s really made it look like he cheated.”
Yesterday, Vicky was on a spa break with her mum Caroll and posted this snap on Instagram.
That might make him rethink their decision to call it a day.
Cheryl: Kylie made me do it
Cheryl’s single Love Made Me Do It about falling for “every f***er” seems like one of her most autobiographical songs – but it was actually co-written by another woman who has been unlucky in love.
Kylie Minogue was one of the original writers of the tune and put her vocals on it in January last year, with it being passed on later to the former Girls Aloud singer to record.
A music insider said: “Kylie knows a hit when she hears one, but she decided it didn’t fit the country sound of her own album Golden.
"But as she had a hand in writing it, Kylie is getting a percentage of royalties from Cheryl’s version.”
Cheryl will be a judge on next year’s BBC talent show The Greatest Dancer, along with Glee’s Matthew Morrison, Strictly’s Oti Mabuse and hosts Alesha Dixon and Jordan Banjo.
With all of them on board, there’s sure to be a song and dance made about it.
Ellie's h-Euge party
Ellie Goulding’s wedding will be enough to rival the Royal Family’s if her engagement party is anything to go by.
The singer threw the showbiz bash of the year last night to celebrate her romance with art dealer Caspar Jopling, complete with a superstar guest list including Prince William, Kate Middleton, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Princess Beatrice and Eugenie.
The celebration at Coworth Park Hotel, in Ascot, was expected to take place at its Barn venue within the grounds, with the entire country hotel booked out in preparation.
But it wasn’t just the royals helping them mark the occasion, as singer Ed Sheeran, designer Stella McCartney and filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson were also invited.
A source close to the star said: “It’s just been so hectic for Ellie and Caspar the last few weeks that they haven’t really had the opportunity to get together with all their friends and celebrate their happy news.
“This will be a chance to have a catch-up and great party with friends that mean so much to them.’’
Ellie, who has previously dated McFly bassist Dougie Poynter and Radio 1 DJ Greg James, announced their engagement in The Times in August, after almost 18 months together.
Now they better get planning the big day.
Grimmy in the gymmy
No one could say Nick Grimshaw has a face for radio – and now he wants the body to match his TV good looks.
And the Radio 1 host is forking out £5,000 to reach his target.
Nick is training four times a week with celeb personal trainer Sarah Lindsay – who also puts Caroline Flack and Pixie Lott through their paces.
He is also getting three carb-balanced meals a day delivered to his door from Athlete’s Kitchen, who look after several Premiership footballers – as well as Dani Dyer and boyfriend Jack Fincham.
A source said: “Now that Nick’s not doing the Breakfast Show, he’s not so knackered all the time.
“He really wants to start prioritising his health – and get a banging bod to match.
“He’s been doing heavy weights and is on a bespoke 2,000 calorie-a-day plan. He’s already shifted loads of body fat and feels amazing.”
Grimmy may well have to be renamed Slimmy.
Perfect Storm
There is nothing we like more than an awkward celebrity encounter.
Brooklyn Beckham delivered the goods when he rocked up to a VIP restaurant launch – and bumped into his ex-girlfriend.
David and Victoria’s eldest sprog had what looked like a stilted convo with singer Tallia Storm at the opening of London’s swanky restaurant Brasserie of Light. They dated four years ago.
Lily Allen, Sadie Frost and model daughter Iris Law were among guests to witness the exchange.
One partygoer said: “They both looked absolutely horrified to be in the same room.”
Passion running high for Rihanna
Rihanna must be taking inspiration from her on/off relationship with Saudi businessman Hassan Jameel for her next album.
This week she registered ten new tracks online, including ones tellingly titled Love Is A Bitch, Lack Of Communication and Gotta Have You Right Now.
It’s been almost three years since she released her eighth album Anti, so it’s about time she put out a new record.
And judging by these song names, it will be worth the wait.
Good Boy
George Michael’s final song, which he recorded shortly before his death in 2016, will not be released after producer Naughty Boy decided it would be disrespectful.
Revealing his decision, he said: “I am not going to release that now as it was organised at a time when he was alive.
“I would love it to be out. I always thought that when I started the track.
“The song is done but it was done after his passing. I am going to let it go.
“I have more respect for him and the legacy he left us.”
CAUGHT OUT
Robbie Williams told pals he’ll wear his lucky undies this weekend in a bid to get his one act Acacia & Aaliyah to the X Factor final .
AS a Loose Women panellist, Nadia Sawalha is used to Wicked guests. So it seems only apt that she got to meet the cast when she saw the West End musical recently.
Julie Andrews has snubbed a cameo in reboot Mary Poppins Returns and is instead voicing a sea creature in rival flick Aquaman, which will be released just a week before.
Alfie Boe risked catching a cold in his bid to get new album As Time Goes By up the charts.
He busked in St Ann’s Square, Manchester, and performed tracks from the record.
