Shirley read off a tablet device, that seemed to freeze, and said: "After an amazing performance, and thank you all for that, I've conferred with my fellow adjudicators...

"Hold on we've lost the board. But anyway I'll keep going."

Craig Revel Horwood grabbed a piece of paper from a producer before passing it to Shirley, who then announced: "Getting seven points, will be Ashley!"

However, the scores are supposed to be read from lowest to highest and Darcey whispered: "Seventh place is for Lauren, read from the bottom" before Bruno hopped out of his seat.

Taking control amid the chaos, he said: "We apologise the board went all berserk so we have to read off the paper. So we start on seventh place. Sorry."

Shirley proceeded to read out the scores - but mixed up Dianne Buswell with Karen Clifton.

She said: "Seventh place is Lauren and AJ. Into six place is Graeme and Oti. Into fifth place is Charles and Dianne."

Tess corrected Shirley and she looked at the paper as she said: "Sorry, I've got no names on here."

Ashley and Pave were eventually announced as the best couple with seven marks, with Faye and Giovanni scoring six extra marks.

The confusion left fans furious on Twitter, as one said: "What a fix how did the judges who supposedly made the decision not know who they placed where"

Another reasoned: "That hop a thon thing is such a scam. Supposed to be picking at that point in time and yet they haven’t got the paper, which comes from someone else, and then they have got in a right muddle, what an absolute fix and shambles."

And a third ranted: "How can the judges cock up the scoring? Where did the piece of paper come from? Why did Claudia think Graeme was 7th? Seems like a lot suspicion. Fix? "

More jioined in and one said: "Loved the way the judges were handed a piece of paper with the results on !?"

As another claimed: "how does a board go missing that YOU have just filled in?"

And one more added: "They were just confirming who they want out and who they want to stay !"
