THIS film is crap – but it’s relatively entertaining crap.
There’s a pretty good NEW hero origin here but the merry men folklore shoehorned in is the least interesting bit.
If the film was just loosely based on the legend, there could have been a Kingsman-style franchise.
Instead, “Rob” is lord of the manor, enjoying his lifestyle with his love, Maid Marian (Eve Hewson).
A Phantom Menace-style political/tax/church subplot soon rumbles in and Rob is drafted to Africa to fight in the Crusades.
While there, he discovers he’s nifty with a bow.
Returning, he finds his kingdom ravaged by the greedy sheriff, his love hasn’t hung around and, basically, his life is in ruins.
Revenge is in order – but only once he is persuaded by his newly acquired pal Little John to create The Hood.
This alter ego relies solely on the population of Nottingham not noting that a vigilante has turned up at exactly the same time as Rob’s return and looks like, well, Rob wearing a scarf.

There are few surprises. The fact it is all pretty standard fare is not necessarily a bad thing.
Go in with low expectations and you will have a good time.
Forget men in tights, this is Rob-in-da-Hood, missing the bullseye but missing it with a wink and a smile.
