Noel Edmonds appears on TV for the first time after end of The Late, Late Breakfast Show in 1986 due to the tragic death of Michael Lush

Back in 1986, the star experienced a major career setback when a man died during a bungee jump gone wrong on The Late, Late Breakfast Show.

He walked away from the BBC for two years after Michael Lush, 24, plunged to his death due to a faulty clip that came loose and caused him to have a fatal impact.

It was later found the malfunctioning clip wasn't strong enough to hold the weight of a bag of sugar.

A judicial inquiry determined the horrific accident could have been easily avoided, with the knowledge sending Noel into a spin.

BBC fined for death of Michael Lush when rehearsing for a live stunt on Noel Edmond's The Late, Late Breakfast Show

Lush jumped to his death from an exploding box that was hoisted 120 feet in the air by a crane during a rehearsal for Hang Em High Lush.

As well as faulty equipment, an investigation found the production team in charge of the stunt failed to hire a trained stuntman to oversea the jump.

And once Lush was in the box, there was no way for him to contact anyone on the ground.

The jury eventually learned that he hesitated a full two minutes before being told to jump from the box.

If he had been able to communicate with the ground crew, the rehearsal may have turned much differently.

Three days after Lush died, the BBC cancelled the show.

Noel returned to the BBC two years later to host Noel's Saturday Roadshow.
