Soap fans were surprised to discover that well known theme tunes had somewhat changed significantly...
THE Coronation Street and Emmerdale theme tunes got a major makeover when they were replaced with piano arrangements.
But why has ITV made the change and does it have anything to do with the new John Lewis Christmas advert? Here's what we know...
Viewers of Emmerdale and Coronation Street were shocked to find that the theme tunes to their favourite soaps had changed.
Both programmes featured a piano arrangement in place of their usual opening music.
Many were confused about the change and took to Twitter to voice their opinions.
One wrote: "Thought there was something wrong with the sound on my TV when I heard the #Emmerdale and #Corrie #intro but apparently there's a reason for it and all will be revealed tomorrow.”
On November 14, ITV posted a cryptic tweet which said: "The title music of some of our shows has been given a piano twist today - all will be revealed tomorrow."
And it wasn't just the soaps that were affected.
All ITV shows including The Chase were given piano music for their intros.
Philip Schofield also addressed the new theme tune on This Morning saying. "Slightly different start today, all will become clear later on in the week."
Some viewers believe the new music was played as a teaser for the John Lewis Christmas advert which was released online today (November 15).
The ad features Elton John playing Your Song on the piano at various stages throughout his life.
One viewer tweeted: "I think it's to do with Elton John playing piano and the John Lewis Christmas ad being aired on ITV tomorrow."
Another theory is that it is Elton John who is playing the temporary new theme tunes on ITV.
