Babs was born as Babbette P Chinery on May 5, 1927, along with her twin sister Teddie.
She grew up in East London’s Bethnal Green but later moved to the Midlands when the Second World War began.

Babs’ sisters were Joy and Teddie both born on May 5, although Joy was 3 years older than twins Babs and Teddie.
They were the daughters of George Arthur Chinery and Victoria Alice Miles who were known as the music hall act Coram and Mills.
The Beverley Sisters were a British female close harmony and light entertainment trio.
Their fame peaked during the 1950s and 1960s following their successful BBC Radio audition.
They had two top 10 hits in the UK Singles Charts with I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus in 1953 and Little Drummer Boy in 1959.
They had four other top 20 hits with Little Donkey peaking at No14.
When was she married?
Babs started dating James Mitchell, a Scottish dentist, in 1963.
After five weeks of romance, the pair decided to tie the knot and made it official.
However, their relationship wasn’t meant to be as they decided to divorce soon after.
Their marriage lasted for four years and the couple had no children together.
