SHREK is being rebooted by the man behind Despicable Me and fans are fuming.
The family-favourite film is making a comeback with a twist but some are saying the new creative direction "just feels weird".
Shrek and its prequel Puss In Boots are going to be receiving the magic touch of Chris Meledandri - the producer of the Despicable Me franchise.
Though there's been talks of a fifth film of the popular series for some time (following sequels Shrek 2, Shrek The Third and Shrek Forever After) , the announcement has shocked fans.
And many took to Twitter to vent their feelings.
One outraged fan implored: "Omg leave the classics alone."
"And while you certainly could make a case for a complete reinvention, I find myself responding to my own nostalgic feelings of wanting to go back to those characterisations."
The owner of Illumination Entertainment continued: "The challenge for us has been to find something that really does feel like it's not simply yet another film in a series of sequels."
The producer now faces the difficult task of keeping original fans on board as well as introducing the lovable ogre to new moviegoers while also staying true to the much-loved characters.
