Kate Wright and Rio Ferdinand announce their engagement after he pops the question on family holiday in Abu Dhabi
KATE Wright and Rio Ferdinand have announced their engagement.
The couple shared a number of pictures online of the moment he popped the question on top of a skyscraper.
Rio asked Kate to be his wife as his three children, Lorenz, 11, Tate, nine and Tia, seven, watched during a family holiday together in Abu Dhabi.
Kate shared the snap online and told her followers: “The perfect end to our holiday ... How could the answer not be yes!”
He later shared the same pictures online and told his fans his three children had been in on his plan.
Rio explained: “She said yes! How these 3 kids kept it a secret I’ll never know!”
Kate, 27, and Rio, 39, have been dating since late 2016, and she moved in with the ex-Manchester United star and his three children last year.
Rio shares his children with his late wife Rebecca Ellison, who passed away after a battle with breast cancer in 2015.
Reality star Kate gave up her spot on Towie last year to focus on the family but recently revealed his kids are desperate for the pair to have a child of their own.
Kate told You Magazine: “The kids would like a little brother or sister; they say ‘I dreamt that you were pregnant.’
“But right now we're just happy with our little unit.”
Speaking about the moment she met Rio, Kate said that she immediately saw the footballer and his children as a package.
Kate explained: “I fell in love with Rio, then I met the kids and fell in love with them. I realised, ‘Wow, my life is going to change.’ I couldn't be part of his life and not part of theirs.
“I knew it would be a challenge.
“But if you love someone you go with it and deal with the difficult stuff.”
During the emotional interview, Kate also revealed she is now a full-time mum to Rio’s kids, cooking for them and looking after the home that she shares with them.
She also spoke poignantly about keeping the memory of Rio’s late wife, his children’s mother, alive.
Kate said all three were coping well but said that it had been “been so hard for them.”
