Mollie King says she’ll drink five coffees and set 12 alarm clocks every morning after landing her ‘dream’ job as Radio 1 breakfast host

The pop star-turned-radio pro has plans to deliver a fun and fast paced show once it kicks off next month

MOLLIE King will be on a caffeine-induced mission to impress fans and BBC bosses when she kicks off her "dream" job as a Radio 1 breakfast host next month.

The ex-pop star, 31, says she'll do whatever it takes to get to work on time including setting "12 alarms", when she hosts the prestigious slot with pal Matt Edmondson, 32.

The BBC has announced their move from afternoons to Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings, and speaking exclusively to The Sun Online about her plans for the show, buzzing Mollie said: "I'll definitely have five coffees.

"I'm also going to need to set about 12 alarm clocks and my mum said I need to set it right by the front door of my flat so that I get out of bed and don't set it to snooze.

"The show is going to be really fast paced, lots of energy. We'll be doing lots of games and lots of challenges. We'll be going head to head with each other, and we want to give it that weekend feeling and start the weekend on a Friday."

The pop connoisseur is excited to have more control over the output too, feeding her passion for new music.

Former Saturdays singer Mollie added: "Both Matt and I love playing new pop music, and I get free plays, so I'll get to air unsigned artists. I love the fact I get a say with that!"

She went on: "We just want it to be really fun.

"Doing the Radio 1 Breakfast show is honestly for me my absolute dream job and also I'm right there at the forefront of music, and I love being able to play that. This for me now is my absolute dream and I feel so grateful. I really hope I can make everyone proud and do the best I can do."

Mollie is joining a throng of successful British females that are "nailing" their presenting careers and who inspire her.

Speaking about her idols, who are all working mums, she said: "There's so many strong woman out there who are just doing everything. Like Zoe Ball I really look up to. I just think she is such a wonderful person and when I was doing Strictly she was so supportive.

"Holly Willoughby as well, and Claudia (Winkleman) and Tess (Daly), I think they are all just absolutely nailing it and so yeah, they definitely inspire me."

Mollie also wants her own family one day, adding: "I do dream of getting married one day and having children for sure. I hope I do that, I really do. So fingers crossed. I definitely dream of having a very small and intimate wedding."

Asked if she's worried she could be affected by the gender pay gap at the BBC, she added: "I think you know as far as Matt and I go, I've actually never asked him how much he's on just because it's not something I would even ask my sisters, you know what they are on.

"But I do definitely think that men and women should be paid the same if they are doing the same job. I think women are being a lot more appreciated and the more that can continue to happen the better."

Meanwhile, she's remained close to her Strictly pals including AJ Pritchard, with whom fans once hoped she'd spark a romance with.

However she dodged the Strictly curse, unlike Seann Walsh and Katya Jones this year, and said: "I think for me I don't know when there's really time (for romance on Strictly). I was dancing 12 hours a day. So I was so focused on the fact that I had to do this dance in front of 12million people. For me personally I didn't have time to have the Strictly curse!

"I know that in our year everyone is just such great friends. We still have the WhatsApp group that we still chat on even now. We came out of it with a group of friends. I watch it every weekend and I speak to Ruth about it, and Simon Rimmer."
