Who is Charlie Sloth?

Charlie Sloth is an English DJ, producer, actor and TV presenter best known as a radio host on BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

His real name is Ian Paul Roullin.

He was born in Liverpool but grew up in Somers Town, North West London.

It is claimed that his birthday is on August 20, 1981, but as he hasn't always been truthful about his age, this can't be verified.

Some sources suggest the DJ is actually born in 1987.

Sloth rose to fame in 2007 after winning the award for Most Original Video at CraveFest in Canada.

The award was for the music video "Guided Tour of Camden".

Most of Sloth's career as a radio DJ has been spent on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1Xtra presenting The Rap Show on Saturday nights and his weeknight late show The 8th.

He was previously a presenter on the weekday drivetime show on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

In 2007, he created the Being Charlie Sloth show, which was picked up by WorldStarHipHop.com and ran for 59 episodes.

In 2008, he won Best Rap/Hip-Hop/R&B Unsigned Artist at Canada’s CraveFest awards in Canada – his second CraveFest award.

Sloth presented the daily drivetime show on BBC Radio 1Xtra from September 2012 until November 2017 before being replaced by MistaJam.

On November 6, 2017, he began presenting a new late-night show The 8th which was simulcast on Radio 1 and 1Xtra from Monday to Thursday from 9 until 11pm.

The show was notable for its post-watershed language and content.

Uniquely for Radio 1, swearing, and childish graphic sexual conversations were routinely a part of the programme, seen by station bosses as a way of attracting younger listeners.

What is Charlie Sloth's net worth?

As of March 2023, Sloth is thought to be worth around £25million.

He has been signed with Jay-Z's Roc Nation since 2020.

Why was Charlie Sloth sacked?

On October 22, 2018, Sloth was sacked by the BBC following a foul-mouth rant during a stage invasion at an awards ceremony.

The sacking follows an on-stage outburst at BBC colleague Edith Bowman, littered with profanity.

On October 18, 2018, Sloth lost out to fellow Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman at the Audio & Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) in Leeds.

He rose to the stage and proceeded to use a variety of expletives which appeared to be aimed at Bowman and other people in the industry.

He later apologised to Bowman for his outburst, claiming that he was trying to perform a stunt reminiscent of Kanye West's stage invasion at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards.

Sloth was set to step down as host of the BBC Radio 1 show before this incident, but BBC bosses confirmed they had terminated his contract earlier than planned.

What does Charlie Sloth do now?

In January 2019, Sloth announced in January 2019 that he would be bringing his show Fire In The Booth to Apple Music, as well as hosting The Rap Show.

The show was originally on his BBC show and is where Sloth allows artists to rap freestyle.

Does Charlie Sloth own AU Vodka?

Sloth is a partial owner of the company AU Vodka.

The company was created by the Welsh duo Charlie Morgan and Jackson Quinn in 2016.

He has been involved in advertising campaigns for the company, including getting YouTuber Jake Paul to tattoo one of the company's products on his arm, in return for £206,000.
