KATE Garraway endured a secret cancer scare after finding a lump in her breast.
The Good Morning Britain presenter faced an agonising two-day wait before learning it was a benign cyst.
The ordeal came after she’d given birth to son Billy, now nine.
She said: “You’re in the clinic, looking round at everyone thinking, ‘Why shouldn’t it be me any more than anyone else?’. It’s really scary.”
Kate, 51, is now urging women to cut down on their boozing after figures showed one in 13 breast cancer cases is caused by alcohol. She is backing a move for women to have several booze-free days each week with the Drink Free Days campaign in partnership with Drinkaware and Public Health England.
She said: “I was flabbergasted by the link. I don’t want to scare people but to have it in your mind is really important.”
She drinks less since having Billy and Darcey, 12, with hubby Derek Draper.
But Kate added: “I’ve done all sorts of crazy things.
“A few years ago Ben Shephard and I went for lunch and champagne at the Cannes film festival — I tripped and totally wiped out Ben.”
