Naughty Boy, real name Shahid Khan, was careful not to give too much away however and wouldn’t be drawn on whether the music would cover Cheryl’s split with One Direction star Liam Payne.

He said: “It is 100 per cent personal and it’s about time people got to know the real Cheryl.

“I think when you’re writing songs there is a different vulnerability and that comes though songwriting , so I am proud of her that she has got more involved this time and not just as a singer.”

He added: “The lyrics really mean something to her – sometimes you have to put in a bit of heart for people to see that there is a real struggle.”

Cheryl, who split from her one-year-old son Bear’s dad Liam last summer, is throwing herself into work – and was recently pictured on the set of her music video.

The former Girls Aloud singer, who has also starred in dance show The Greatest Dancer,  appeared on set of Love Made Me Do It wearing a chic pinstripe suit.

Her glamorous appearance comes after it was revealed Cheryl is set to return to The X Factor with an explosive performance of her comeback single, which is said to be an “edgy dance track with a swear or three”.

The Sun revealed the singer has signed up for the prime-time gig during live shows in November for her first live performance in four years.

A source said: “Inevitably, all of the big TV shows have been fighting to get Cheryl’s first performance as it will be a huge ratings winner.

“But she has decided to remain loyal to The X Factor rather than give the exclusive to its rival, BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing.

“And Cheryl will be pulling out all of the stops to make sure that this is one of her most talked-about performances to date.”
