Coronation Street’s Daniel Osbourne’s dark side to return as wife Sinead Tinker chooses between saving herself or their unborn baby after tragic cancer news
The journalist tried to murder his own father when he last arrived on the cobbles out of rage from how he had been abandoned
ROB Mallard has revealed Daniel Osbourne's dark side is going to return in Coronation Street.
The journalist tried to murder his own father when he last arrived on the cobbles out of rage from how he had been abandoned, but later managed to get his anger issues under control with the help of a therapist.
But now with his girlfriend Sinead Tinker pregnant, Daniel's fragile balance is going to be thrown into question when he discovers Sinead is privately battling cervical cancer.
The fear of what Daniel could do will convince Sinead to try to keep her secret cancer battle exactly that, but when the news is exposed, Daniel's not going to be a stable individual.
Actor Rob told The Sun Online: "One of the things that I was most interested in was the selfish thoughts when something bad has happened to someone else.
"So someone comes to you and is like, 'This really bad thing is happening to me' . And of course many things are happening [in your head] but one strand is - and this is surprising and what I want to play the most - how you deal with that selfish 'Well you have to be well because that's going to make me happy'."
He added: "Every time their relationship has come under threat, it's always made him go off the rails.... it's a little bit unhinged. It's a little bit dangerous, to put all of your mental wellbeing on one person.
"All of his mental stability lies with this very sweet, ill girl."
Daniel's drive is going to make him want to ensure his child has a better upbringing than he did, and that means keeping Sinead alive at any cost.
He added: "I think because Daniel grew up without a mum and a dad - a dad for some of his life and a mum for the best part of it - he sees the nobility of a mother who would do anything to make sure their baby is born and healthy and think 'Well I don't really care what happens to me.

"But Daniel would think about from the perspective of the child being brought into the world and then bereft of its mother and go 'That's not something you should do to a child'. So again, I think it's that selfish thought thing. "
And he confirmed he had a long-term future on the soap after discussions with new producer Iain MacLeod.
He said: "I had a meeting with him and we discussed where he would like to take the character over the next year or so.
"When Kate came in she put me and Katie together and gave us all these brilliant storylines that we're still playing out now... and it's not going to change because the producer's changed - he's picking up the baton."
