EMMERDALE stars Lucy Pargeter and Dominic Brunt have thanked fans for their "overwhelming" support for their heartbreaking baby death storyline.
Monday night's episode saw their characters Chas and Paddy welcome their little girl Grace, who they knew had little chance of survival outside of the womb.
Fans were left in tears by the emotional scenes, leading actors Lucy and Dominic to thank viewers for being so supportive on Twitter.
Lucy, 41, kicked things off by writing: "I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has watched tonight’s ep.
"I was cleaning sick up off my bedroom floor from one of the #twirls at the time , but knowing what was going on on screen I was thankful to be doing it ... 'if that makes sense'.
"I hope it was respectful of anyone who has been through anything close .... and makes people hold their children close and be thankful for the gift we have been given ... thank you x x x."
Dominic, who was filming when the episode aired, then added: "Dear all. Just looked at twitter. I’m just overwhelmed. Seriously.
"I’m filming in the middle of a field in the freezing rain so I haven’t seen the episode yet. I’ll read every single post when I get inside.
"Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you @emmerdale @lucyparge"
When pub landlady Chas went for her 20-week scan she was told her daughter was suffering from bilateral renal agenesis – meaning the baby has no kidneys and underdeveloped lungs.
While she was offered the chance to terminate the baby, Chas decided to take the pregnancy to full-term, and gave birth to Grace with Paddy by her side last night.
A heartbreaking flash-forward episode will also air this week, which sees the soap imagine Grace if she had survived as a toddler and teenager.
Dominic recently said of the episode on This Morning: "It's done very cleverly.
"They've not exploited it in anyway, they've done it really delicately and it's been hard to read. They've done a really great job on it."
