STRICTLY Come Dancing fans were up in arms on Saturday night as Katie Piper was almost reduced to tears by the harsh criticism and low scores from the judging panel.
Viewers tuning in to watch the long running BBC One dance show were left shaken as 34-year-old model Katie received “harsh” comments and scores from Darcey Bussell, Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel-Horwood and Bruno Tonioli.
Katie and her dance partner Gorka Marquez were one of the earlier couples to dance on Saturday evening – putting on an energetic Paso Doble to the sound of Demi Lovato’s single Confident.
But the judges were far from impressed.
Craig, 53, lashed out at the performance, slamming it as: "very, very stompy".
He added: "There was no real shaping in there. I thought the whole thing was very plank-ish."
While 49-year-old Darcey said Katie could find improvement - and traditionally bitchy judge Bruno, 62, sniped that Katie needed to "Play the part more"
Some viewers watching at home felt the judges were being unduly harsh on Katie’s performance.
“The judges scoring were a bit harsh on Katie Piper, her confidence is not fantastic, so what a way to bring it even lower,” one viewer tweeting – with others noting that Katie looked so close to tears as the scores came in.
“Poor Katie, she did well to hold back the tears. It’s only the second week, the judges are so harsh sometimes,” one fan wrote – with another tweeting: “Poor Katie she looked so sad. She did just great it’s only week 2.”
Fans were quick to rally around the mum-of-two.
“I feel so sorry for Katie she looks like she wants to cry. 😢 Please save her she deserves to stay in the competition,” one Strictly fan urged.
Another tweeted: “Oh don’t cry Katie. We loved you,” while another sent support, writing: “Don't be sad #katie you are amazing #YouCanDoIt.”
At the end of the show, Katie and Gorka found themselves second form the bottom – just above Susannah Constantine and Anton Du Beke.
Viewers have the option to save their favourite contestants – with the result filmed on Saturday, but not revealed until Sunday evening.
