OFCOM is investigating Loose Women after 8,000 people complained about Coleen Nolan's row with Kim Woodburn after she stormed off the show.
She was brought on to face her enemy Coleen, 53, again after a fiery Celebrity Big Brother stint last year.
But the feature ended prematurely and in tears when Kim said the treatment of her in the house reminded her of being bullied as a child.
She stormed off set with the show going to an ad break.
Ofcom spokeswoman said: “We are investigating whether this programme fell short of generally accepted standards.”
The episode, which aired on August 29, sparked 7,900 complaints.
Ofcom will consider whether any potential offence was justified by the context and what steps ITV took to minimise or otherwise contextualise any offence caused.
The 76-year-old claimed she was “mocked” by Coleen and sister Linda and said she felt like she was ambushed.
Kim had opened up about childhood abuse and how she felt that had impacted on her time in Celebrity Big Brother.
She said: "I had a very very sad childhood, I had a brutal childhood."
An unsympathetic Coleen then whispered under her breath: "She's going to cry in a minute."
As Kim tried to explain that the reason she hadn't coped well in the house is because of what she had been through, she added: "A brutal rotten childhood.
"I can't describe what I went through. I went in that house and all the memories of those years came back with the bullying they were doing to me. I was very upset in that house but I pretended I wasn't. They picked on me."
And 23,000 people signed a petition calling for her to be sacked following the argument.
Earlier this month she quit Loose Women and cancelled her upcoming solo singing tour which was due to start in January.
