Piers Morgan advised disgraced Roxanne Pallet to go into hiding before ‘starting again’ as he admits he feels sorry for her
The presenter revealed to The Sun's Bizarre column that he feels sorry for Roxanne after exchanging texts with her
PIERS Morgan has revealed he advised Celebrity Big Brother’s Roxanne Pallett to go into hiding after she quit the house — even admitting he feels sympathy for her.
The Good Morning Britain presenter, 53, has urged the public to call off the dogs and stop criticising her.
He told the Sun’s Bizarre TV column the pair exchanged texts amidst the fallout after she accused Ryan Thomas of assaulting her whilst play fighting in the house.
Piers said: “I know Roxanne a bit and I don't feel sorry for in the sense she got herself into this mess and I think she played it very badly. I think she knows how badly she played it and I think the scale of abuse she's now getting is beginning to get a bit much. People should calm down. She had to leave that show.
“She's lost her pantomime gig, she's lost her radio show. Everyone just wants to wipe down and extinguish and it's got a bit brutal.
“I think she made a big mistake, shouldn't have done what she did, and I told her, 'Go away, clear your head and come back and start again'. In the end it's a TV show. What she did was not smart and she knows it and I'm beginning to feel a bit sorry for her. I think it's now become a witch hunt. It's brutal.”
Former Emmerdale star Roxanne, 35, admitted she revealed she was “the most hated girl in the UK” when she claimed she was repeatedly punched by ex Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas.
She demanded he be ousted but footage emerged of the pair play fighting and the public turned on her.
Soon after Roxanne gave two interviews with Jeremy Vine and Emma Willis, the former blasted for lack of grilling and the latter praised for unsympathetic approach.
But Piers defended BBC Radio 2 DJ Jeremy insisting he asked the right questions.
The journalist said: “I think they were both good interviews. Roxanne was like, 'What can I do about it?'
"Other than do a full Mea Culpa and admit you were wrong, there's not much more you can do than that than to say you were wrong and apologise.
“That was the advice I gave her which I think other people were telling her too. And I don't know her that well but I do feel a little bit sorry for her it's become a TV crucifixion.
"At some point you've got to say, 'She's apologised, she knows she made a terrible mistake, it's been disastrous for her and her career.'

"And at some point you've got to call the dogs off and give her a bit of a break now and let come to terms with what happened and then hopefully come back a better and different person from this experience because what she did was not a smart thing to do.
“I think they asked all the right questions. She did a full Mea Culpa. Once you get that there's nowhere else to go. She made a big mistake. It might be a bit more complicated than we think, maybe because of the stuff that happened in her past, she was hypersensitive to anyone brushing, who knows?
“I find it hard to believe she would be quite as cynical knowing her as people are trying to make out she was but I don't know.”
