Bake Off’s Ruby Bhogal given more camera time than any other contestant — despite TWO botched bakes
BAKE Off bosses gave glamorous contestant Ruby Bhogal nearly twice as many appearances on screen than balding Jon Jenkins.
The project manager, who shared banter with flirty judge Paul Hollywood, was shown on 85 separate occasions during Tuesday’s opening episode.
Ruby, 29, avoided being sent home despite two botched bakes during the 75 minute-long biscuit week episode, in which she received three minutes of her own screen time.
But blood courier Jon, 47, was shown just 47 times over two minutes and fifteen seconds despite wowing judges Paul, 52, and Prue Leith, 78.
The balding dad-of-four was praised for his “spectacular” final challenge submission, a selfie depiction of a family sailing trip in cinnamon and orange, but French software manager Manon Lagreve was named Star Baker.
The 26-year-old, revealed by The Sun to have competed in BBC1 cookery show The Box in 2015, featured on screen 14 times more than Jon but still 24 times less than Ruby.
Early in the episode Paul was heard stuttering while flirting with Ruby but she failed to charm him with her Masala Chai biscuits during the first challenge.
The Wagon Wheels technical challenge saw her beat the other 11 bakers, but after the showstopper she fell into the bottom three with Terry, 56, and Imelda, 33, who was sent home.
A shocked Ruby reflected: “Part of me feels like it should have been me”.
Viewing figures suffered a slight drop with an average of 6.1million tuning in to the Channel 4 show compared to 6.5m last year.
But many on Twitter revealed they were smitten with Ruby, the youngest-of-four in an Indian family.
One wrote: “Oh man I’m in love with Ruby already.”
Another commented: “Watched The Great British Bake Off last night and loved it and I have to admit I also fancy Ruby, she’s gorgeous.”
