STRICTLY DONE SPARKLING

Strictly Come Dancing bosses forced to scrap glitter make-up due to eco ban

STRICTLY is losing some of its glitter — because of rules to protect sealife.

A clampdown on microbeads also affects the liquid glitter daubed on stars.

When washed off, particles too small to be filtered out end up in the oceans.

Experts believe tiny sequins will soon be added to the new hit list.

So make-up and wardrobe teams, who have used 150 litres of liquid glitter since the show’s launch in 2004, are now scrambling to find other ways to keep the series’ trademark glitz.

An insider explained: “Glitter and sparkle are key things about Strictly.

"For many fans the outfits and looks are almost as important as the dances.

"It means the make-up and costume teams are working harder than ever to find something to comply with new rules but still give the celebs a showbiz finishing touch.”

But TV sources vowed to ensure the show — co-hosted by Tess Daly — does not lose its shine, with producers looking to more environmentally friendly products.

The 15 celebrities will be screened for the first time on Friday in a pre-recorded show teaming them up with the professional dancers. The curtain-raiser will be broadcast on Saturday September 8.
