Great British Bake Off to mock Prue Leith’s Twitter gaffe giving away last year’s winner in upcoming series
The Bake Off judge will be time-travelling with her co-stars to when she accidentally tweeted Sophie Faldo won the show before the series finale was aired
THE Great British Bake Off producers will poke fun at Prue Leith’s infamous Twitter gaffe in the opening scenes of this year’s series.
Bosses on the Channel 4 show made Prue, Paul Hollywood, 52, Sandi Toksvig, 60, and Noel Fielding, 45, act out a “time-travelling” Back to The Future-style skit in a nod to her ruining last year’s final by revealing the winner 11 hours early.
The cookery veteran, who replaced Mary Berry on the hit baking show, tweeted that former Army officer Sophie Faldo had triumphed after getting confused about the time difference while on holiday.
The South African-born star, 78, said at the time that the reaction to the mistake had left her feeling suicidal.
A show source said: “Prue really had a tough time of it after last year’s final but has moved on from the whole thing and is ready to joke about it now.
“It was suggested that to kick off this year’s series they would act out a little skit poking fun at the gaffe.

“The piece will see all four of them ‘time-travelling’ in a Back to the Future style scene to turn back time so the result wasn’t then known.”
The show returns next Tuesday for the second series on the Channel 4 since the ratings hit moved from the BBC after seven series before a £75million move.
This year’s contestants include a Belgium-born Malaysian-Chinese mental health expert who lives in Leeds, and a stunning project manager from London.
