The news comes off the back of The Sun's exclusive reports on two of the themes for this year's series.

Host Noel Fielding has come up with the idea of a vegan challenge while Sandi Toksvig has gone for a Danish theme.

Bakers will have to brush up on their pastry skills to impress judges Paul and Prue Leith as well as Sandi and Noel.

A telly source said: “Producers wanted to give Sandi and Noel a bit more input this year and decided to give them some control over the format of the show.

“The filming for Danish week was a lot of fun and Sandi had to do all she could to stop herself from helping the contestants with some of her top tips from back home.

“It makes for great telly and everyone on the show agrees that it gives the series a new lease of life.”

Sandi was born in the Danish capital Copenhagen but spent most of her youth growing up in New York where her father worked as a foreign correspondent for Denmark’s national broadcaster.

The new series will be its second outing on Channel 4 since leaving the BBC in a £75million deal two years ago.

Last year’s final was watched by 11million viewers.

Mixing up the recipe for this well-loved format can only be a good thing.
