Paul Young reveals his heartache after TV chef Gino D’Acampo stole music that featured his late wife’s voice in burglary
PAUL Young has revealed his devastation after TV chef Gino D’Acampo’s robbed his house and stole music featuring his wife – who then died.
In a heartbreaking interview, the singer said the impact of his crime is still tough to think about because music, which contained his late wife Stacey’s voice, was stolen and never returned to him.
Gino was 21-years-old when he raided Paul’s family home and stole a number of items, including his £4,000 guitar collection.
The telly star was caught after his DNA matched tests on cigarette butts he had dropped in Paul and Stacey’s London home.
He was sentenced to two years in jail for the crime and has since expressed his remorse for his actions.
Paul has previously said he forgave Gino, now 42, for what he did but now it’s clear he’s still struggling with the impact the incident has had on his family’s life.
And losing precious memories of Stacey, who died in January, is the hardest to fathom.
Speaking to , Paul, 62, said: “When Stacey went there were certain bits of music I never got back.
“Let’s say that – and that hurt me.”
Talking about Gino now, he explained: “He gets enough stick on social networking – he doesn’t need my help as well.”
Earlier this year the singer appeared on This Morning, where Gino regularly features in cooking segments.
Fans were stunned he would choose to appear on the show but Paul made it clear he felt perfectly at ease.
In 2011 he told the that Gino had contacted him to personally apologise before he went on I’m A Celebrity in 2009.
He said: “I don’t hold it against him. He said it was bad and he apologised, and I did get most of the stuff back. ”
“Maybe he needed his wrist slapping and he got that.
“He said he was in a terrible place at that time and wanted to turn his life around.”
