Mariah Carey says she’s praying for Aretha Franklin as famous fans rally around sick superstar
MARIAH Carey has added her voice to the chorus of stars sending prayers and well wishes to music legend Aretha Franklin who has fallen ill.
The 48-year-old chart topping star has long been a fan and friend of soul legend Aretha, 76.
The music world was rocked at the start of the week as news broke that the Respect singer had fallen gravely ill.
A sources close to the star has since expressed fear that Aretha is “seriously ill,” as they spoke to the Associated Press on Monday.
Taking to Twitter on Monday, Mariah revealed she was keeping the Natural Woman star in her thoughts.
“Praying for the Queen of Soul,” Mariah wrote as she shared a photo of Aretha alongside praying hands emojis and the hashtag #ArethaFranklin.
Mariah famously joined Aretha for a barnstorming performance of the classic song Chain of Fools for Aretha’s 1998 VH1 Divas Live show.
Humbled by the performance, Mariah bowed down to her duet partner and declared: “All hail the Queen of Soul! Aretha Franklin!”
Other music stars also took to social media to share their hopes that the singer will make a recovery.
Rap star Missy Elliot declared: “My prayers are with Aretha Franklin & her family during this difficult time.”
Highlighting an earlier tweet, Missy added: “LOOK BELOW @ what I tweeted at the top of the year we MUST CELEBRATE the Living Legends while they are here to see it. So many have given us decades of Timeless music...”
She had earlier written: “People like Stevie Wonder/Tina Turner/Patti Labelle/Aretha Franklin so many LIVING LEGENDS need to be Celebrated while they are here! We tend to say how great they were when they gone Give them Flowers & Credits Tributes now,”
Pop singer Ciara also expressed her thoughts, tweeting: “Praying for Aretha Franklin and her family right now.”
