From Vanity Fair to Black Earth Rising and Wanderlust, here are 20 brilliant new TV shows for you to enjoy this autumn
IF this is how good autumn telly looks, then count us in.
Lady in red Olivia Cooke takes the lead in sexy ITV drama Vanity Fair, just one of a string of new shows heading our way over the next few months.
Toni Collette, Jenna Coleman and John Goodman are among the star names that we will see – but keep an eye out for returning favourites in Luther and House Of Cards.

Black Earth Rising
JOHN Goodman is the war crimes lawyer who asks a female colleague to convict a militia leader – the same man who stopped genocide in Rwanda that nearly killed her daughter.

THIS is Simpsons creator Matt Groening’s darkest stuff yet. The series is about a drunk, rebellious princess trying to flee an arranged marriage, helped by a demon and an elf.

EVERY parent’s worst nightmare comes true for Jenna Coleman in this psychological thriller. She is a mum who loses her baby during a trip across Australia.

Butterfly
ANNA FRIEL plays a mum coming to terms with son Max wanting to live his life as a girl, while also dealing with Max’s dad. Sure to be a hit three-parter with Anna at the helm.

Maniac
SUPERBAD pair Emma Stone and Jonah Hill get together again to play strangers who take part in a drugs trial, which ends up going very wrong. The dark comedy also stars Sally Field.

The Little Drummer Girl
HOLLYWOOD hunk Alexander Skarsgard stars opposite Brit Florence Pugh in this glitzy spy thriller, adapted from the John le Carre book. Made by the hit Night Manager team.

Dark Heart
A COP investigates some of the country’s most brutal crimes while haunted by the murder of his own parents when he was a boy. With a plot like that, he could be the next Batman.

The Reluctant Landlord
SEMI-autobiographical sitcom with Romesh Ranganathan about a man who feels pressured by his mum and partner to take over the village pub owned by his late father.

THE brilliant Paddy Considine plays a cop who enlists a second-generation Pakistani from East London to go undercover in this six-part, Homeland-style thriller.

DOCTOR Foster creator Mike Bartlett brings us his take on the newspaper industry, with David Suchet and Ben Chaplin as rival journalists. We will let you know how accurate it is.

FLEABAG writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge has adapted Luke Jennings’ Codename Villanelle novella series about a bored MI5 officer. It did well on BBC America and is heading here soon.

TOP British talent Vicky McClure and Daniel Mays are virtually unrecognisable in this one-off 90-minute drama about peace efforts in the wake of the 1993 IRA bombing in Warrington.
