All the reasons Leonardo DiCaprio has only dated women under 25 for the past 20 years
He's dated everyone from supermodel Naomi Campbell to Victoria's Secret Angel Gisele Bundchen - but Leonardo DiCaprio hasn't dates anyone over the age of 25 for 20 years
USUALLY seen with bottle of champagne in one hand and a long-limbed model on the other, Leonardo DiCaprio is still owning his title as the world's longest-reigning Lothario.
The 43-year-old actor - worth a staggering £190million - is renowned for his lavish partying ways and is often pictured leaving nightclubs swamped by a bevy of 20-something-year-old beauties.
The Titanic star is currently dating Al Pacino's step daughter, Camile Monroe - who at 23 is two decades younger than him.
But Camile isn't the first 20-something model the Wolf of Wall Street star has dated.
In fact, ever since his first high-profile fling with Vogue cover girl Bridget Hall - then 20 back in 1994, he's failed to date anyone over the age of 25.
But why after 20 years is Leo still only dating models in their 20s - and why is his cut off age for a girlfriend 25?
The curse of 25
It was when Leo himself was 25 when he faced his first negative press story.
While filming The Beach in Thailand, he was accused of damaging the environment and getting a co-star pregnant by the Thai tabloids.
At the time, the previously clean-cut star said it was a "stab on my reputation."
"This is something I probably have to get used to - lies culminating in something much more hysterical and out of hand."
And experts believe that Leo's experiences when he was 25 may have stopped him wanting to date anyone older.
Andrea Lindsay from told Sun Online: "It is possible that DiCaprio’s negative experiences at 25, may have subconsciously scarred him.
"This was the first time he had been seen in a bad light, resulting in him trying to return to his younger, happy-go-lucky days."
Psychotherapist Noel McDermott agrees.
"Leo may feel like the trauma of the event meant he should only date someone of the age he was when this happened," he says.
"It may also be a rationalisation for something else.
"Clearly this isn’t healthy behaviour - not so much the age differences but the repetitive nature of the relationships - it indicates a serious problem with forming intimate relationships.
"His pattern of dating suggests he is avoiding a mature relationship that can challenge him to be authentic and vulnerable."
Scared of being used by actresses wanting to 'get to the top'
Throughout his entire adult life, the 43-year-old has been linked to the biggest names in fashion - from Naomi Campbell and Gisele Bundchen to Kristen Zang and Toni Garn.
Blake Lively is the only one of his 13 girlfriends who isn't a model - though she easily could be.
The Romeo and Juliet actor had a fling with model Amber Vallerra, 24, after he saw her in a magazine and had his reps track her down.
He then enjoyed a five-year romance with Giselle Bundchen, but the pair split just after her 25th birthday.
He moved on to dated Blake Lively when she was 23, and the following year in he romanced Erin Heatherton who was 23 at the time.
Psychologist Nicole Gehl from London thinks Leo purposely dates young models because they can't have an impact on his career - or use him to get ahead.
She tells Sun Online: "He might be wary of an upcoming actress using him as a building block for their career - so date models instead."
The need to be desired
Lindsay thinks Leo may be obsessed with dating younger models because he needs to feel desired.
"Perhaps this issue is not about what happened to him at 25, but more about what being 25 represents, as opposed to being 43," she tells Sun Online.
"At 25, we have our life ahead of us and youth on our side without the responsibility and expectation that comes with age."
Lindsay goes on to say that dating younger women can be an outward statement of confidence and virility.
"Dating a woman his own age would become a mirror of his own mortality - and perhaps one he does not want to accept?
"A man's self perception is based upon his current level of attraction - so if he wakes up next to a 25 year old, he can believe he has maintained his youth.
"Younger women may be more easily pleased by gifts and goods whereas someone closer to his own age may want what he is not ready to give - commitment and children.
"As the saying goes “A man is as young as the woman he feels”!
Blinded by beauty and using women as trophies
Psychologist Toby Ingham believes DiCaprio is starstruck by the models' beauty in the short-term but ultimately craves somebody he can be honest and real with.
He said: “In the short term their beauty is probably is all that you need or all that you think you need to think about.
“But in the longer term it’s probably the case the beauty alone is not enough to sustain a relationship.
He added: “I imagine his mother may have been very supportive and he has a very good relationship with her and she may be one of the very few women he can turn to and be honest in a world so saturated with celebrity.
"He lives in such a pressurised, A-list celebrity bubble that it’s very difficult to meet people who are not in it too."
“He’s not going to be bumping into women at the book shop or at the Co-Op in High Wycombe.”
His one true love
Despite DiCaprio having the choice of a number of girls, he often brings his mum Irmelin Indebbirken, a German born legal secretary, to award ceremonies - rather than his latest squeeze.
The A-lister previously said his German-born immigrant mother was his ideal women yet he has dated nearly 50 supermodels since becoming a household name.
The 43-year-old previously said: “My mother is the centre of my life. To have a woman like that in your life, who is strong, who'll be honest with you about who you are... that's something I treasure.
“And it's something I look for in a woman.”
