Steve Backshall’s wife Helen Glover gives birth to healthy baby boy after tragically miscarrying his twin
BRITISH Olympic champ Helen Glover has given birth to a healthy baby boy.
The double Olympic gold medallist, wife of telly presenter Steve Backshall, was expecting twins but heartbreakingly lost one of the babies in April.
Helen shared the news with a stunning photo on Instagram.
It showed the new dad's thumb stroking a tiny little foot.
She added the heartwrenching caption: "Steve and I will are excited to welcome Baby Boy Backshall to the world.
"We promise to make it a great one for you little man."
Presenter Ben Fogle and England rugby star Ben Morgan were quick to offer their congratulations.
Helen and Strictly Come Dancing star Steve first announced they were expecting twins in March.
A month later, devastated Helen told her followers: “Thanks for all your lovely messages.
“We've had the hard news that one baby hasn't made it but we are very excited and hopeful for the remaining baby to arrive this summer.”
She was inundated with messages of support following her post.
One of her followers told her: “Dear Helen (and Steve) I understand your loss after suffering the same multiple times with my darling wife. Sending you the warmest of blessings for your strength together, and of the strength of the remaining bubba.”
Another tweeted: “So so sorry for your sad loss! Virtual hugs on their way to you both. Time is a great healer, take as much as you can to just be together.”
Steve, 44, and 31-year-old Helen decided to start a family once she had relaxed her training schedule.
He explained: “Helen hasn't quite decided yet whether she wants to continue with the rowing.
Steve and Helen met during Sport Relief back in 2014.
As part of Team GB, Helen has won a number of medals including gold at London 2012 in the women's coxless pairs alongside Heather Stanning- the first gold earned for the country that year.
The pair won the gong again at Rio 2016.
Helen is also triple World champion, quintuple World Cup champion and triple European champion in her field, leaving her ranked as the number one female rower in the world since 2015.
