Kym Marsh opens up about her new tattoo which was inspired by her late granddad
KYM Marsh has revealed she has got a new tattoo which was inspired by her late granddad.
The Coronation Street star, 41, is overjoyed by the fresh inking which sits on her back in between her shoulder blades.
In her latest column, she wrote: "Last week I had a new tattoo done and I’m delighted with it.
"I’ve been thinking about having a new one for a while and I’ve been talking a lot about my dad’s father, Granddad Marsh.
";He was in the Parachute Regiment and was a prisoner of war for a time during World War Two. He was a hero in our house.
"My granddad and I were very close when I was growing up, but he died suddenly when I was 13 years old and it was a real shock to me.
"We had a real bond. He bought me my first microphone – it’s sad to think he never lived to see my success."
Explaining the concept behind her new inking, the former pop star - who plays Michelle Connor in Corrie - added: "I saw a picture of the badge for Bellerophon and Pegasus – a hero in Greek mythology and his horse – which is the badge my granddad would have had on his uniform.
"I took one look at it and said: 'That’s what I want as my new tattoo.'
"I’ve made it a variation of the military badge as I wanted to put my own stamp on it and I think it’s beautiful."
Her tattoo was inked on by tattoo artist Nathan Haworth who revealed the impressive work in a compilation of pics on his on his Instagram page.
In the snaps shared to his account, the mum-of-two can be seen overjoyed with the design, which sits on her back in between her shoulder blades.
Nathan captioned the images: "Honoured to tattoo such a meaningful in memory piece for Kym Marsh yesterday, had such a laugh with he and her family, what do you think?"
It comes after it was revealed that Kym is dating a hunky Army Major four months after splitting from boyfriend Matt Baker.
