A source said: “No one expected these two to leave and it is a massive shock.
“Their fellow islanders were stunned when they spoke about their reasons for quitting.
“It’s going to have a big effect on the show, it's a huge bombshell, and they are going to be massively missed by their co-stars.”
The Sun Online has contacted Love Island for comment.
This year’s series of Love Island has been the biggest yet, with ratings through the roof for the popular ITV show.
After the staggering figures were released, ITV2 announced the show had been recommissioned for a further five years.
When it was announced, a spokesperson said: “We are delighted that viewers have embraced Love Island so wholeheartedly; it has become the most talked about show of the summer.
“We are thrilled that we will be back with a new series next year.”
Last year’s winners Amber Davies and Kem Cetinay have seen huge success since winning last year and this year’s contestants are already promised fame and fortune – even if they don’t walk away with the top prize.
