Ellie Jones reveals Love Island producers sent her into the villa to SPLIT UP Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham
Ellie tells how producers wanted her to cause tension between the show's strongest couple and favourite to win
LOVE ISLAND’s Ellie Jones has revealed she was sent into the villa to split up the show’s strongest couple, Dani Dyer and Jack Fincham.
Producers wanted her to cause tension — including revealing to Dani that Jack had a poster of her EastEnders star dad Danny on his bedroom wall.
The ex-contestant, who dated Jack on and off for two years before joining the ITV2 reality show, told us: “I brought up his poster before going in and producers wanted to get it in during my chat with Dani.
“I’d told them about it as they were asking me if Jack already knew about Dani.
“Everyone thinks he’s in there just because she’s Danny Dyer’s daughter. So I mentioned it.”
But she added: “He’s not clever enough to keep up an act and would have slipped up, I do genuinely think he likes Dani. It’s just a touch that she’s Danny’s daughter.”
Ellie also told how producers tried to coax her into speaking to Dani about claims Jack had liked several of Dani’s Instagram snaps before meeting her on the show.
But she said: “I was like, ‘I wouldn’t worry.’” And Ellie added: “They didn’t show it but I told Dani I do think Jack genuinely likes her.
“Whether he knew of her or not, they’d have got together.
“Jack was annoyed I’d mentioned the poster but I didn’t want to embarrass him. It’s only a little poster and Danny’s film The Business is his favourite. He likes him and is a fan.”
It was the first of several scenes on the show that Ellie said were engineered.
She said: “Producers will tell you when to talk. They will say, ‘Can you and so-and-so have a chat.’ If they want you to add something or word it differently, they might ask you.
“I’m not very good with speaking, so would often ask to do it again. I had a conversation with Grace (Wardle) and we kept giggling and they told us to stop. But they do let you be as natural as you can.”
Ellie also revealed there was a fiery exchange between her and Jack — after her revelations about his poster when she went on a date with Dani on the show.
She said: “He swore at me and called me f***ing d**khead. He was angry about the situation and that it is not normal for an ex and your current girlfriend to go out on a date and speak about you. He then apologised and we were fine the next day.”
The row was never shown. But a Love Island spokesman said of the show’s contestants: “Opinions they have, decisions they make and the relationships formed are completely within the control of the Islanders themselves. It is our intention to produce a show that is a fair and accurate representation of life in the villa.”
Ellie’s entry into the villa drew 2,500 viewer complaints. They accused bosses of harming Dani’s wellbeing when she was shown to be distressed by a video of Jack reacting to his ex-lover’s arrival.
But Ellie insisted she wasn’t hoping for a second go with the Essex pen salesman — despite his prowess in bed.
She said: “Our relationship was very sexual and we would often sext while drunk — it would often be led on by me.
“We had a good sex life and I’d rate him. Well done Dani, you chose well. I would give him eight out of ten. So Dani is in for a treat.”
The former secretary believes Jack and Dani, the bookies’ favourites to win the show, will become one of showbiz’s hottest acts.
She said: “They’ll be the new showbiz power couple — the Posh & Becks of Brentwood. Everyone loves them.”
Even ex-flames, it seems.
Waterbeds before the watershed?
LOVE Island alumni Chris Hughes and Kem Cetinay have backed show bosses’ decision to axe many of the raunchiest moments this year.
The pair – whose new series You vs Chris & Kem begins on ITV2 tomorrow at 10pm – were no strangers to bedding down in the villa.
But Kem told us: “It helps get younger viewers. When I was eight my mum wasn’t going to let me watch people in bed.” Funny that.
