Frank Skinner rules out re-making Three Lions football anthem as England progress through World Cup

FRANK Skinner has ruled out another version of Three Lions (Football's Coming Home) as it continues to be England’s World Cup anthem.

Fans have been belting out the song by the comedian, his pal David Baddiel and The Lightning Seeds as Gareth Southgate and the boys progress in Russia.

But Frank, 60, seemed to rule out updating the Euro 1996 ballad when talking to the Sun’s Bizarre column.

Speaking before the World Cup, he said: “I think we have to be prevented by law from doing another football song.

“People are still talking about Three Lions and we haven’t been forgotten.”

It comes after the song continues to top music charts with more than one million streams of it on Spotify on Saturday when England beat Sweden in the semi-final.

Baddiel and Skinner beat Demi Lovato chart-topper Solo, by Clean Bandit and Demi Lovato to the Number One spot in the UK charts.

Marvin Humes, presenter of the Big Top 40, said: "What an incredible day! It's only right that Three Lions is number one on the chart.

"Our boys in Russia are doing us so proud. The nation has come together and hopefully this is only the beginning of the celebrations."

Shortly after England’s win some fans invaded a branch of Ikea singing Three Lions.

And Baddiel and Skinner shared a patriotic kiss after England’s ticket to the semi-final.

Today David, 54, wrote in the Sun how football “really is coming home”.

He said: “This time round, more than ever. When we wrote the song, the refrain ‘football’s coming home’ referred both to the fact the tournament was being held in England, and to the more mystical idea that we might win.

"But now the song seems to mean only we might win, and as the week went on, and the jubilation rose, yes, we are going to win.”
